King George III was the British monarch during the American Revolution, a war he saw as a rebellion against his authority and one he was determined to crush, initially by hiring Hessian mercenaries and later through prolonged military engagement despite ministerial resignations. The conflict, culminating in the Treaty of Paris, led to the loss of the American colonies, a defeat that greatly damaged George III's prestige and led him to consider abdicating.  Many loyal to this King resettled in Prince Edward County and remain dedicated to this day.
